Using social media to recruit is now an established part of an employer’s arsenal. Many will use sites like LinkedIn before ever advertising a role.
But surveys from Microsoft and Jobvite show that use of other sites is much more prevalent. In their 2010 survey, Microsoft found that 70% of companies in the US had rejected a candidate because of something they found out about them online. In the UK, 41% of companies said the same.
And yet 67% of companies in the UK also said that they had made hiring decisions based on online information. If you are not managing your Personal Brand Online, you are likely to miss out.
The latest Jobvite survey of recruiter behaviour in 2011 shows that:
- 89% will recruit in social networks this year
- 55% will spend more on social recruiting
- 64% use 2 or more networks for recruiting
